At Empower Nepali Girls, we believe meaningful and lasting change comes through long-term relationships, local leadership, and ongoing support throughout a student’s educational journey.
Our programs are intentionally community-based and designed to ensure that each girl receives not only financial support, but also mentorship, encouragement, guidance, and connection.
We support the full educational journey — not just tuition.
The Empower Nepali Girls Approach
Tuition & Educational Support
ENG fully covers school tuition for most students in primary and secondary education, with a strong focus on government and semi-private schools that serve rural and underserved communities. As students advance into college, university, and professional programs, additional factors such as academic performance, aptitude, and career goals help guide the level and structure of continued support.
School Materials & Essentials
For many families, the cost of uniforms, books, school supplies, backpacks, shoes, and warm clothing can become a greater obstacle than tuition itself. ENG provides students with the materials they need to attend school with confidence and dignity. Materials are typically refreshed multiple times each year, helping students remain prepared for school while reinforcing the importance of education and scholarship within the family and community.
Ongoing Student & Family Engagement
Our staff recognizes that academic success starts at home. Through regular school and home visits, our team stays connected with students and their families, helps ensure each student has the support and structure needed for consistent school attendance, and better understands the household circumstances that may affect her education.
These ongoing relationships are a key part of our model and distinguish our work from a traditional scholarship program. They allow our team to monitor progress, identify challenges early, provide mentorship and encouragement, and give students and parents a trusted place to ask questions, raise concerns, and seek guidance.
Alumni Mentorship and Peer Support
One of the most powerful parts of Empower Nepali Girls has emerged organically through the strength of our alumni and student community. Many of our students become the first girls in their families to pursue higher levels of education, creating new pathways not only for themselves, but also for younger students following behind them.
Our alumni and older students actively mentor younger girls, share experiences, provide encouragement, and help students navigate challenges they themselves once faced. What began informally has evolved into a deeply meaningful support network built on shared experience, leadership, and mutual encouragement. Seeing students guide and inspire one another has become one of the most inspiring aspects of our organization and a reflection of the strength of these young women.
Guidance, Leadership & Local Programs
Our Nepal team also organizes programs that help students explore future opportunities and build confidence as leaders within their communities. These include mentorship sessions, career guidance, discussions around health and female hygiene, leadership development activities, and participation in local and international events such as International Women’s Day.
These programs strengthen relationships between students and staff while helping girls better understand the opportunities available to them and the role they can play in shaping their own future.
Community Involvement & Inspiration
Our students are encouraged to participate in community-focused projects and initiatives that promote leadership, responsibility, and service. These projects may focus on education, health awareness, mentorship, or local improvement efforts.
Through these experiences, students gain confidence while also recognizing the importance of giving back to the communities that supported them. Our hope is that each generation of students helps create stronger opportunities for the next — continuing the ripple effect that begins with education. As our students grow, they become role models for younger children — inspiring others to believe that education is possible for them too. Through relationships, awareness, and ongoing support, we are helping communities see girls not as a burden, but as future leaders.
Identifying and Accepting Students
Our team in Nepal has worked hard to build an application process that is transparent, equitable, and unbiased. There will always be more students who need support, and with your help, we can reach more girls. But we are proud that the process guiding this work is fair, open, and rooted in the needs of the communities we serve.
Identify
communities where educational opportunity for girls is limited and where trusted local partnerships can support long-term success.
Collaborate
with schools, families, community leaders, and local officials to recognize girls with financial need, family support for education, and a desire to learn.
Support
families through the scholarship application process, gathering information about each student’s background, family structure, educational history, and financial need.
Interview
students and conduct home visits to understand the student’s living conditions, support structure, educational environment, and academic potential.
Review
final recommendations from the Nepal team collaboratively with U.S. volunteer leadership to support fairness, consistency, and long-term sustainability.
Once accepted, students and families become part of a long-term support network built on mutual commitment, responsibility, and trust.
