Support for Nepal’s Flood-Affected Communities
Along with the rest of the world, we are watching the tragic events unfolding across Nepal and seeing the tremendous need facing families and communities affected by the recent floods.
The outpouring of support—from within Nepal and around the world—has been remarkable. Organizations experienced and equipped to respond to emergencies like this are already mobilizing to provide food, shelter, medical assistance, and other urgent relief. We encourage everyone who is able to support these organizations as they address the immediate needs of affected families.
While the students and families currently supported by Empower Nepali Girls (ENG) have not been directly impacted by the flooding, the effects on surrounding communities, regions, and the country as a whole are being felt by everyone.
Looking Beyond the Immediate Crisis
ENG is also beginning to plan for the longer-term needs that will emerge in the weeks and months ahead.
As the immediate emergency response progresses, our team will work with local communities, municipalities, and government partners to understand where important gaps remain and determine how ENG can have the greatest impact. Because of our existing partnerships with municipalities, we expect to be part of the effort to identify the needs of school-going children and families as communities begin the difficult process of rebuilding.
Our support will remain focused on where ENG can make the greatest difference: helping children continue their education.
Depending on the needs identified, this may include providing scholarships to children whose families have been affected, helping schools rebuild or recover, replacing books and school supplies, providing stationery and educational materials, or addressing other education-related needs.
Empower Nepali Girls Flood Recovery Fund
We are establishing a dedicated ENG Flood Recovery Fund. All donations to this fund will be specifically earmarked for programs supporting communities affected by the floods.
Rather than duplicate the critical emergency work already underway, these funds will help address the longer-term educational needs that emerge as families and communities begin rebuilding their lives.
If you are able, we invite you to contribute to this fund. We will share updates as our plans develop, including the communities and needs identified, how funds are being used, and the progress of the programs we support.
The immediate response is happening now. Our commitment is to make sure the children and communities affected are also supported in the months that follow.
